A Busy Week at Gilboa

A Busy Week at Gilboa

First session is about to end on a high note, with lots of ruach, education and new programs.

During the spring, madrichim (counselors) worked in vaadot (committees) to come up with a vision on changes they felt were needed. One of the major issues discussed was increased involvement of chanichim (campers) in decision making at camp, as well as providing additional responsibility and growth opportunities for older chanichim.

A a result of these conversations, peulot about kupa (communal fund) were moved to earlier in the session, so that chanichim can have a fuller vision as to how kupa will be handled. Also, some new responsibilities for programming was put in the hands of Bonim and Bogrim (9th and 10th graders) to challenge them and provide them with earlier hadracha (education) experience. Bogrim ran Bocoup today (Bogrim Coup) today - as they do each year - but also received additional responsibilities leading tochniot erev (evening programs) with madrichim.

Bonim, were challenged to create programming for themselves and for the rest of machaneh. In the beginning of the week they split into committees, and already ran an evening program for themselves and a camp-wide Zman-Bonim today.

Take a look at what the committee members had to figure out together:
The education they will provide
How to make it fun
Research educational resources
Decide how to split participants into groups that make sense and could work well together
What supplies will they need and how to get them
Timing of peulot
And actually running conversations and/or activities in an engaging way

Both activities were planned and executed thoughtfully and passionately. The first - a "Hunger Games" night activity for the Bonim kvutza happened on Tuesday, and the second - camp-wide chuggim - ran today and included chug dance, chug philosophy, chug women and an ultimate frisbee game.

In the next few days we'll write more about our tikkun olam programs and about BoCoup. In the meantime, here are some photos from this week's activities:

Sayalim at the Lake

MBG (our new one week pre-hadracha program for 11th graders), joined us this week. In this intensive program, MBG'ers learn about the youth movement and its pillars, how to build and run educational programming, as well as practice their new skills running programs with the madatz).
