On Wednesday morning our madatz (counselors in training) left camp, carrying on their backs all food, water and gear to last for two days. They were headed to the peak of Mount San Gorgonio, also known as Old Grayback - the tallest mountain in Southern California, 7th tallest in the United States, 18th tallest in the world. They left in high spirits, and although they had to brave rain during the night, and icy conditions at the peak, they made it back Thursday night, tired and a little sore, but with a sense of achievement. We've been hearing from the group and their counselors about the madatz encouraging each other along they way, sharing the load of the luggage, and even about two heated motivation speeches made along the way (borrowed from Lord of the Rings and Braveheart - what else would you expect...).
