Shabbat Blogging - Chotrim (7th Graders)

This week's Shabbat blogging was the responsibility of the Chotrim group. Here is an account of their week as they experienced it.

Yom Israel
We had an amazing time at Yom Israel. We woke up to an incredible breakfast of pancakes, eggs, hashbrowns and veggie sausages. We did many activities that were fun, yet educational. They all helped us to know ourselves more as Jewish people. After that, the madrichim told us that Israel was building a new colony on the moon. They split us into two groups, one of them agreed with building a new colony, the other disagreed. Then the two groups had to debate to come to an agreement, which we couldn't do.

Then we had PISH with our kvutza (a discussion with our age group) about what worked and what didn't. We needed to improve on. It was an amazing bonding experience for all of machaneh.

Gender Night
Gender night was a very educational experience for all of Gilboa. Gender night is when you talk about different genders. This night taught us not to judge people by appearances, labels or stereotypes. For example, in one of the stations, we created a safe environment by listening to a song called "safe and sound" while relaxing. Overall, this night was inspirational for all of machaneh.

Gilboa Idol
The Bonim (9th graders) ran an evening program this week called Gilboa Idol. Each kvutza prepared a song or a dance, and Bonim decorated the chadar (dining hall), presented and they were the judges.

Here is what each kvutza prepared:
Sayalim: They had a great song choice (Fireflies) and attitude on stage.

Chotrim: They did acapella with a surprise ending song. Their song mash-up  was "Since You've Been Gone". They were definitely the best performance.

Shomrim: They did an acapella riff-off and sang break-up songs.

Bonim: A special thanks to them for hosting an amazing Gilboa Idol.

Bogrim: They had a great choreography and an amazing intro and ending. Their song choice was "Toxic".

Madatz: They were very funny, because they fake-played the piano. Their song choice was the "Piano Man".

Tzevet (staff): They danced to "Shoke it Off" and they were disqualified for copyright reasons.

At the end of the night we had a huge dance party.

Tiyul (Ovenight Hike)
We went on tiyul and Benny (the dog) joined us. We went to Castle Rock and on the way played games. Our madrichim kept telling us to drink a lot of water and we had to pee a lot. We even peed from the top of Castle Rock. When we reached the campsite we ate hot dogs and played more games and then we went to sleep.
