Shabbat and Tiyul (overnight hike)

A recap of the last few days includes Shabbat and the overnight hike (tiyul). But we'll start with Sadna'ot (rotations). At Gilboa, campers experience two electives (or skill building) activities every weekday. The first is Chuggim (electives), in which campers choose an activity they'll engage with throughout the session. Electives are run in a mixed age groups and allow campers to develop a skill or delve into an issue. The second is Sadna'ot (rotations) that switch every day and in which campers participate with their age groups. Sadan'ot allow campers to participate in a different activity each day, be exposed to new experiences and allow different campers to shine in different settings. Sadna'ot include Kayaking, Archery, Bishul (cooking), Zman Shaliach (Time with the Shaliach learning about Israel), and Tea Time with the Rosh - where campers explore issues relevant to the youth movement and their involvement in it.

On Thursday Chotrim (7th graders) spent their Sadna doing kayaking:

And Friday morning Bogrim (10th graders) joined their Sayalim buddies (see previous post).

Friday afternoon is  chill at Machaneh Gilboa. After Shabbat Rotations (preparing camp for Shabbat - with responsibilities divided by kvutza (age group) - campers clean-up (themselves and their cabins) and dress up for Shabbat. They all gather to watch a skit about the weekly parasha (this week Bonim - 9th graders - prepared a skit about "Balak"), and then sing and greet Shabbat together.

On Shabbat afternoon camp started to prepare for the Tiyul - the overnight hike. Since the Bogrim (10th graders) were planning to go on a more challenging hike, they got some instruction on putting together a campsite.

And later on that day, campers performed songs, classical music and improv skits.

On Sunday morning the entire machaneh woke up early, packed up and headed out to the different trails. More photos from the trails coming soon.
