On the morning of the 13th we woke up fired up and ready to go on our overnight tiyul (hike). Everyone woke up early to eat a quick breakfast, pack lunches, and get ready to be shuttled off to the start of the hiking trail. The weather forecast showed a possibility of rain and so we as a mazkirut had to straddle between the position of cautious weathermen and camp directors eager to go ahead with our original plan. After hiking for two hours with a steady dose of drizzling, the three younger kvutzot decided to turn around after eating lunch on a viewpoint in case of any potential weather outburst and headed back to machaneh. Naturally, as we turned around, the sky cleared out and the sun came out.
Back at machaneh we were ready with our Plan B as the weather forecast still predicted thunder and yet the sky was streaked blue. While we planned to camp out at a nearby campsite, the mazkirut decided to forego the overnight plan in case it would actually rain during the night. As we waited for the older chanichim to come back from their full tiyul (in perfect weather) everyone at machaneh took showers and had some chofesh, as the reminder of tzevet ran a World News Update, had a mandatory dance party, and ate dinner outside our chadar ochel. We ended the night at the medurah pit singing songs and eating banana boats before going to sleep in our own tzrifim. While the fickleness of the weather report was frustrating since it did not end up raining and we did not get to use our camp site or sleep outside, we did the best we could do to make our Tiyul Plan B as fun as possible and in the end decided that it was a better decision to sleep at machaneh than risk having it rain during the night.
The next morning we left for our Kupa Trip to Swim Beach in Big Bear. Once again, the clouds were foreboding but as we finally passed a few rain clouds and a few minutes of rain showers we entered Swim Beach and enjoyed a BBQ lunch, structured free time, swimming in the lake, football, Frisbee, and relaxation. It was great to get away from machaneh and everyone seemed to really enjoy the trip. Before leaving back to machaneh however, all of Gilboa challenged a Lithuanian camp at Swim Beach to a dance off where we traded off our rikud moves for theirs. In the end, we got together in one huge circle, both machenot, and shared two simple dances that we both agreed to take back to our respective machenot.
The day only got better when we returned to machaneh and ate chocolate chip pancakes, chocolate milk, and chocolate pudding for dinner for our tochnit erev – Hagshama Factory, a spin off of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with many of our tzevet and madatz face-painted as Umpa Lumpas. We went to sleep early, content to be back at machaneh, and excited for a few regular normal days before we have our Yom Meyuchad (Special Day) on Thursday. Well rested and energized, we just finished a loud Shira, are about to begin Zman Sport, and later in the afternoon we will take our First Session Camp Photo before lunch.
