Tzedek Seminar

At Gilboa, we create change-makers.

A Gilboa education fosters an environment in which we can dream big and see the world as a place where we should and can make a difference.

Gilboa’s year-round Tzedek (justice) program is a space for high-schoolers to begin considering what it really means to make a change, and to get some hands on experience in doing so.

This summer, Tzedek participants from this past school year paired with incoming Tzedek participants during a half-day long seminar. During the seminar, the Bonimot (9th graders), Bogrimot (10th graders) and Madatz (counselors in training) engaged in a sicha (conversation) about different tactics that social movements use to create change. They considered such tactics as civil disobedience, philanthropy and mass protest, comparing their strategic effectiveness against their moral value.

After a fun and epic gaga tournament, the Bonimot and Bogrimot walked across the meadow to the amphitheater, where they envisioned the upcoming Tzedek year and reflected on what Tzedek means to them.

In small groups, they spoke on camera answering the following prompts:
  • What does Tzedek or justice mean to you?
  • What do you hope Tzedek will look like in five years?
  • What do Gilboa high-schoolers care about?
  • Why does the youth have an important voice in issues of social justice?
  • In what ways has Gilboa influenced your outlook on current issues?
  • What things do you want to accomplish in Tzedek?
Here are some screen-grabs from the videos:
