Every Friday afternoon everyone participates in preparing for Shabbat. Some chanichimot (campers) bake challah, others set the tables for dinner, Benny (the camp dog) is being washed, some groups prepare songs and skits, and a group of campers write the Shabbat blog as their way of providing a glimpse into what happened at Gilboa this past week.
This week the Shomrimot (8th graders) were tasked with the blog - here's what they came up with:
One with the Thorn
Yesterday, July 12th, was Bocoup. What is Bocoup? It's a day in which one of the kvutzot (age groups), the Bogrmiot, take over camp. The theme they came up with was the Avengers. The Bogrimot decorated the chadar (dining hall) and some of them dressed up as Marvel heroes. But anyway, that's not the point, or at least not what I wanted to write about. One of the last activities we did was a game called Zap. There are a multiple of games called Zap, but this one in particular is known for being a Gilboa specialty. And special it was.
So the game is played in the dark. There are two teams, more or less, one has flashlights and the other one tries not to let the beams touch them, as they are hiding from the team with the flashlights. If they are caught, the hiders have to run back to their starting point and try once again to reach their destination undetected.
Our starting point was the parking lot and we had to get to the pool, which is on a hill. They're actually not far apart... except for the fact that there was so much light. I was sure we would be found immediately. I ended up half crawling and half running with my sister on a hill that was on the left side of the pool with some cabins in between. The Bogrimot, who had the flashlight, were along the cabins and close to the pool, and even though we were supposed to sneak towards the pool, you could hear so many shouts, it felt like a playground. The hill we were in was bushy and quiet though, and we found some kids hiding and helped each other out. It was pretty awesome because the limit to our vision was just outlines, and only until we asked each other our names did we realize that the people we were helping and that were helping us were kids I wouldn't usually hang out with. It really built a sense of community.
Ok, so back to the game. My sister and I have decided to go higher up the hill to stay safer, so we go back a little and head up. Now, the bushes on this hill are dense and perfect for hiding in, and thorny... This also means that you have to find an opening in the low walls made of bushes to pass through. So my sister and I are crawling along, looking up once or twice, when we hear footsteps coming towards us and we see a light. We both immediately launch into the bushes and curl up tight. This was the time in which I became one with the thorn. Or, should I say, thorns.. It was... touching... literally. But anyways, I survived, ran into the pool, and watched as two Bogrimot (obviously the villains in the plot), fell into the water. The End.

More about Bocoup
Bocoup is a day where Bogrimot runs a day and this year it was about the Avengers. During this day we did fun things such as a carnival with stations, water balloon fight, and played a game where we try to camouflage. We also had breakfast for dinner and had chocolate chips pancakes.
Bonimot Idol
Bonimot Idol is a show run by the Bonimot. Each kvutza has to come up with a dance to perform with a song. Our song was "I just can't wait to be king" from the Lion King. We choreographed part of the dance earlier in the day and improvised for the rest of the song. Kvutzot were judged and given awards based on how well they performed. We won the "totally" award. It was fun to see all the kvutzot perform.
