NorCal kids travel to camp

Travelling to camp is fun and exciting, and for those that do that for the first time there's always a bit of anxiety. For all of the campers and parents in northern California there's the extra bit of it, as the trip to camp involves flying from NorCal to SoCal. For many kids it's the first time they are flying by themselves without their parents. For many of the parents, it's the first time they are sending their kid on a flight all by themselves without an escort. For others, even if it's not the first time, putting a kid on plane by themselves is not as easy as putting them on a bus. (and I'm not suggesting departing from a kid getting on a bus is easy).

This year, due to flight schedules, all of NorCal kids took the same flight from Oakland airport. Our group was HUGE - 33 campers, many of them with parents escorting them all the way to the gate. It was a lot of fun, and very exciting. Dalit's lists helped make sure everyone is accounted for, although we had a few moments of uncertainty as the last few kids were finally arriving thru security to the gate. The Southwest folks had a little bit of anxiety with too... (maybe More than a bit), well, try to imagine a group of 33 kids who get together and meet after they didn't see each other for a while; add to that a couple of folks (Jacqueline, Avi) trying to get a role call to make sure every are accounted for; add to that parents and kids asking questions about the arrival process, and saying goodbyes...; Someone mentioned: "I don't see any tears - something is wrong!"

Did I already say it was fun? :)

We wanted to share this with all of you, together with some pictures of the kids boarding the plane, and the parents saying their goodbyes.

Good travels and a wonderful summer camp from the NorCal families.
